Running down the competition - Evenson makes it look easy as county's top runner By Katie Noble DAILY PRESS & ARGUS It takes a lot of work to be a dual-sport athlete, and a good one at that. But Hartland junior Avery Evenson makes it look downright enjoyable. Evenson was the number one runner for Hartland's cross country team in every meet this fall, and was also an integral part of Hartland's swim team. This past cross country season, she set a new personal and school record of 17 minutes, 40 seconds for a first place finish in arguably the hardest region in the state. She faced her biggest task on Nov. 5 at the MHSAA Div. 1 state finals, where she placed fifth out of 238 of the best runners in the state. But while most runners were resting the day before the big race, Evenson was pulling double-duty by swimming in the preliminary rounds of the KLAA Conference meet.
