Mary Cain is going to be visiting Nike’s headquarters in Portland, Ore., next Saturday because her feet have made history in the annals of the powerhouse Bronxville girls cross country program.
The sophomore qualified at Saturday’s New York regional at Bowdoin Park in Wappingers Falls for the Nike Cross Nationals, an event that will be run on the company’s grounds.
“We’ve had some very, very good cross country runners,” coach Jim Mitchell said. “She’s the very first girl we’ve ever had to qualify. It’s tough to do. It’s a major accomplishment in a cross country runner’s life.”
