Zeinasellassie wins Nike cross-country nationals

North Central's Futsum Zeinasellassie finished 24 seconds ahead of the field.

North Central senior Futsum Zeinasellassie is a national champion in high school cross-country.

He won the Nike nationals Saturday at Portland, Ore., running a time of 15 minutes, 3 seconds to break the 5,000-meter course record by seven seconds.

He finished 24 seconds ahead of runner-up Daniel Vertiz, San Antonio.
