MANLIUS AND ARCADIA HIGH SCHOOL XC CLUBS WIN NIKE CROSS NATIONALS TITLES

Twenty-two Girls and Boys Clubs Comprising of 398 runners Competed at Portland Meadows

in Cross Country Championship Races

Portland, Oregon – December 1, 2012 – Under sunny skies and cool temperatures an estimated crowd of 5,000 saw Manlius (NY) and Arcadia (CA) take the club titles at the 9th Annual Nike Cross Nationals at Portland Meadows racetrack.

The Nike Cross Nationals featured two separate races, one for the girls and one for the boys. The Manlius girls won their 7th NXN title in 9 years with a score of 54 points. Carroll (TX) finished second with a score of 198 and Carmel (IN) finished third with a score of 209.
 
In the boys race, Arcadia took the team title with a score of 108. American Fork (UT) finished second with a score of 122 and North Spokane (WA) finished third with a score of 146.
 
Sarah Baxter (CA) finished first in the NXN girls race with a time of 19:17. Mary Cain (NY) took second with a time of 19:21 and Katie Knight (WA) finished third with a time of 19:32.
 
Sam Wharton (OH) finished first in the NXN boys race with a time of 17:06. Estevan Delarosa (CA) finished second with a time of 17:09 and Luis Martinez (NM) finished third with a time of 17:17.

Nike Cross Nationals (NXN) is comprised of eight Regional Qualifying meets and today’s NXN National Finals. Following the tradition of European cross country meets, the Nationals event features a multiple loop race course with man-made obstacles built inside of the horse race track at Portland Meadows. The field includes 22 seven-person teams, and a total of 398 runners.

Elite Nike athletes were on hand to support the youth competitors and represent each region. The athletes included: Galen Rupp, Kara Goucher, Elliot Heath, Chris Solinsky, Matt Tegenkamp, Andrew Bumbalough, Shalane Flanagan, Andrew Wheating, German Fernandez, Alan Webb, Matt Centrowitz, Emily Infeld and Sally Kipyego.
